American Red Cross Response to Hurricane Katrina, Update 10

The American Red Cross is responding to an unprecedented natural catastrophe and devoting every resource to this humanitarian relief effort. The American people can be confident the Red Cross will spare no effort to meet the needs of hundreds of thousands of Hurricane Katrina survivors.


Red Cross Mass Care Operation


Red Cross Shelters

More than 650 shelters have been opened in 17 states


Evacuees Sheltered

More than 159,000 survivors


Relief Workers

More than 32,000 trained workers from 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands


Emergency Vehicles

More than 270 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs)


Feeding

More than 5.4 million hot meals and 5.5 million snacks to-date
(Red Cross in coordination with the Southern Baptist Convention)

Funds Received



As of Sept. 7, 2005, it has received $485 million in gifts and pledges for the hurricane relief effort, of which $251 million has been received online.
