3M Company Supports Red Cross Relief Efforts Through Red Cross Racing

3M Company and NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Greg Biffle are helping communities recently devastated by severe weather in the Midwest. For the next four NASCAR Sprint Cup races, the Red Cross logo and toll-free number, 1-800-RED-CROSS, will be displayed on the TV panel of the #16 3M Ford Fusion. 3M has also donated approximately 10,000 units of insect repellant and cleaning products to be distributed throughout Iowa and Wisconsin.

The on-track visibility will remind racing fans in Sonoma, New Hampshire, Daytona and Chicago to support American Red Cross disaster relief efforts. "The American Red Cross greatly appreciates the support of 3M and Greg Biffle," said Chris Hrouda, Executive Vice President of Biomedical Services for the American Red Cross. "Their generous donation and continued enthusiasm for highlighting the importance of both blood donation and disaster relief throughout this racing season is extraordinary."

The Red Cross will be present at the New Hampshire and Chicago races with an exhibit featuring Red Cross Racing. This program, launched in Talladega on April 24, encourages loyal NASCAR fans to become dedicated Red Cross blood donors. This program is off to a strong start as nearly 6,600 race fans have registered and reported nearly 1,500 blood donations, including one from Greg Biffle himself. Biffle is also a member of the Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet.

Severe weather has not only forced evacuations for many community members, but has also disrupted scheduled blood drives, tightening the supply of blood in the affected areas. Eligible donors are encouraged to visit redcrossracing to schedule a blood donation appointment in the days and weeks ahead to ensure an adequate supply of blood is available when needed.

The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund has been largely depleted, yet the Red Cross anticipates spending millions as it moves forward with relief efforts for the victims of flooding and tornadoes across seven states, an enormous geographic area. From Kansas to West Virginia, the Red Cross is providing vast amounts of clean-up supplies, dozens of shelter locations and tens of thousands of meals. The Disaster Relief Fund allows the Red Cross to provide immediate emergency assistance to the victims of disasters such as house fires or severe storms.
